Besvärjelsen - Clouds [Official Music Video]

“Clouds“ video directed by Mats Ek Order Besvärjelsen´s “Atlas“ here: Erik: It was the first song I wrote actually, I mean like the first in my whole life. I have contributed ideas, arrangements and drum stuff before, but I had not written a song from scratch until Clouds. I wrote it in garageband on my phone since I really can’t play guitar except for some chords. I was in a phase where I listened a lot to Paradise Lost (happens every now and then) and got inspired to write some Paradise Lost-ish (their “One Second” album in particular) music even though the final song doesn’t sound like them at all. Clouds actually had a different verse from the beginning. That was the version that Lea came up with the vocal melodies to. And that was the first real holy shit moment, hearing her vocal melody on that demo. Then I knew it was going to be a great song. The second holy shit moment was hearing Staffan’s guitar solo. Another big change occurred quite late in the game, Johan changed the arrangement by deleting the verses and kept Lea’s vocal melody over the intro chords instead. He also added an embryo of the drum beat on the second verse. At first I thought he just wrecked the song, but his instincts were right and it made the song better, and that’s what’s important. We ended up with a really cool song. Lea: The lyrics are based on a poem that I wrote years ago. It was about, surprise, a shitty relationship. When listening to the music, I knew I wanted something bombastic, an epic piece of heartbreak music. After living in a chaotic relationship during the pandemic I could relate to the poem I had from before and I just switched it up to fit with my current feelings. And it turned out to be a great anti-love song and, hopefully, a great middle finger to my ex. The song was fun to record, but I will never, ever hit those end notes live. Johan: One of those songs that fit perfect on the album to get the right dynamic. Staffan’s solo in the end also took it to the next level.
