Israeli rabbis denounce Jewish prayers at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque

Five influential Israeli rabbis released statements on Wednesday that condemned Jewish prayers at occupied East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque. The statements followed an incident on Tuesday during which National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and dozens of Israelis violated a decades-old convention by raiding Al-Aqsa Mosque while praying, singing and raising the Israeli flag. For decades, a delicate status quo has governed worship and visits to the site, permitting only Muslims to pray in its courtyards and prayer halls.
