Impulse Curve

Impulse Curve electronic sound and light-sensitive control surface Composed by Eli Fieldsteel (2019) Recorded in the Experimental Music Studios at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on February 23rd, 2021 Impulse Curve is an immersive electroacoustic composition for LightMatrix, a custom light-sensitive control surface consisting of 256 photoresistors, and any number of loudspeakers. Originally premiered as a multi-day installation in an 18-channel geodesic dome, this work is suitable as a sound installation in a gallery space for passers-by to interact with and experience, but can also be presented in concert as a solo improvisatory performance. Several digital soundscapes ebb and flow throughout the piece; some musical parameters respond most strongly to large, obvious gestures, while other musical parameters are more sensitive to subtle physical interactions.
