Reno And Andy (1929)

Comic dance act Reno and Andy - ’Springing In The Spring’. Pathe Studio, London. Two men, Reno and Andy, perform a comedy ballet dance. One is dressed in a male tabard and shorts - we see him kneeling on the floor. The other runs in, wearing a short satin dress, a mop of dark hair and socks and suspenders, and trailing a floaty scarf behind him. ’She’ jumps right over the man, then flicks the scarf about to tease him. The man runs after the other one, lots of comic jumps and running, all to the accompaniment of an unseen piano. The man tries to lift up the ’woman’, but only succeeds in tickling her, making her scream with laughter! He then inadvertently grabs her bosoms, and gets a smack round the face for it. He finally manages to lift her up, lots of silly business, pratfalls, tumbling and so on - it’s quite funny! The ’woman’ jumps onto the man’s shoulders and he spins round with her pummelling his bottom (pianist is now playing ’William Tell Overture’!). More lifting, then the man slaps
