About Riccardo Petrella from his book, “The Water Manifesto: Arguments for a World Water Contract“ (Zed Books, 2001): Born in 1941, a social scientist by background, Riccardo Petrella became a leading member of Jacques Delors’ team at the European Union as Head of Forecasting and Assessment in the field of Science and Technology (FAST) when in was trying to deepen the social content of the EU as a political project to which the ordinary person in the street could relate. He is committed to vision in which the right to life for every human being rather than market optimization is the inspiration for a new global social contract which can provide renewed hope for the future.
