Snail Eating (1965)

Wells, Somerset. Mr Penny is a snail collector. We see him gathering snails in the Mendip Hills countryside. He puts them in a tin and carries them to a local pub restaurant. The pub is the Miner’s Arms. Landlord takes out a handful of snails and looks at them with appreciation. In the pub’s kitchen the snails are cooked in salted water then in a broth. C/Us of the snails being prepared with garlic sauce then placed in special snail serving dishes. “They’ve got all the escargot gadgetry that Paris has devised to overcome the customers’ snails resistance“ states the narrator.
