Aikido KAESHIWAZA, counter techniques, on SHIHONAGE, by Stefan Stenudd
KAESHIWAZA are counter techniques, where an aikido technique is countered by another aikido technique. Here are some counters to shihonage, shown quite slowly for clarity. Kaeshiwaza is practiced to improve the aikido techniques so that counters become increasingly difficult.
Kaeshiwaza is mainly a question of timing, finding the right moment to counter, which is when the other’s evasion turns into defensive action.
