Premiere performance of April 28, 1966 One of America’s best-known composers David Diamond wrote several concertos for various instruments incuding more than one for the piano. This one was dedicated to pianist Hortense Monath who was planning to perform the world premiere of the work before her sudden and untimely death. The work is one of Diamonds’ lesser-known works more by chance than by comparison. It displays the pure Diamond sound of this era of his composing style which also included works such as the Music for Romeo and Juliet, and his symphonies 5 and 6, to mention a few.
