Vecchia Zimarra -1979 at Juilliard - Luciano Pavarotti - from La Boheme (Puccini)

During Luciano Pavarotti’s masterclass at Juilliard in 1979, this song, “Vecchia Zimarra“ was sung by bass Robert Briggs. (Full video easily found on YouTube, as well as the full masterclass itself, at over 2 hours long.) I snipped this out, and edited it for sharpness and color, to have the song alone as its own video. Though Pavarotti never sung this song officially, as Colline, the character who sings it in La Boheme, is a bass role, he obviously knew it well, and after Briggs was done, sang this to demonstrate. The full video is very nice to watch as well, and to compare Briggs’ first performance to his second after hearing Pavarotti’s comments and example. I consider this to be a rather uncommon piece of Pavarotti’s, as it cannot be found on live stage videos or official video productions, as he would never have been able to do the role that sings this, in my opinion, very lovely aria.
