Hampton Grammar School World Record

Taken from the 1961 British Pathe reel ’Bed Record’. Filmed at Hampton Grammar School, Middlesex. Four teenage boys carry an old-school retro boarding school / hospital ward style iron bedframe onto a rugby pitch and reinforce it with scaffolding. Then a line of school boys take it turns to take their shoes off and lie across the bed. They pack themselves in like sardines, but only head to toe and then vice versa - which couldn’t have been nice! The total boys is 94, beating the world record which was made in America with 63 boys. The Hampton boys had already broken this record in their first attempt - managing to pile up 65 boys. A photograph of the event appeared in Daily Sketch.
