Custom-Built Amtrak Paper Trains! Runs on Wooden Railway Track

Hey everyone! Here’s a short video I put together of my newest paper train models, a pair of Amtrak diesels. These are the first in a series of models I’m planning, that I’ve built to run on wooden railway track. I’ve been creating my own paper trains for almost 20 years. Beginning at age 7, they started out pretty rough but slowly evolved into detailed models as my drawing and modeling abilities improved. I built most of my trains to approximate or exact O scale (1:48). More recently, I decided to start making some easier but still detailed, smaller trains. I was inspired by some pages on the web of people who build their own wooden railway trains, some of which are very elaborate. I thought, why don’t I make some paper trains the same gauge? The result are these engines. They’re built from templates I draw myself by hand, with a ruler. Then I copy the pages, color them, and cut and assemble the pieces with transparent tape. Most of the trains are made out of paper, but also feature a cardboard frame for more durability. The wheels are cardboard circles, glued together to 3mm thickness, connected to axles made out of toothpicks. With added weight put inside the models ($2 worth of quarters, lol) they roll very nicely down the tracks. In the video, I run the trains through various wooden railway tracks. Even with the engines’ longer length than normal wooden trains, they still make it through sharp curves and switches. I’m planning on making many more trains this size, including more equipment to make an entire Amtrak train (baggage car, Superliners, etc), plus freight locomotives & cars.
