GREATEST HS Girls Lacrosse Game Ever Played in Florida

DOMINANT NATIONAL TOP 10 TEAMS American Heritage-Delray (BLUE) and Lake Highland Prep (WHITE) played the greatest girls lacrosse game between two teams from Florida in the 2019 state championship semifinal. Lake Highland had already defeated top national teams St Stephen & St Agnes (#9 in nation and VA state champs) by 10, Glenelg Country School (#16 in nation), Cardinal Gibbons (NC state champs) by 12, and Lassiter HS (GA) by 13. American Heritage had defeated Notre Dame Prep (MD) by 10, Lake Oswego (OR state champs) by 16, Bishop Ireton (VA runner-up) by 5, Academy of the Holy Cross (MD) by 11, and Langley HS (VA) by 15. Both teams were dominating on a national level. Lake Highland was led by the extremely strong midfield of Ainsley Thurston (Duke), Jackie Norsworthy (Florida), and Ashley Thurston (Stanford) along with the team’s incredible goalie, Regan Alexander (Ohio State). American Heritage had an all-star lineup led by attackers Caitlyn Wurzburger (North Carolina), Allegra Catalano (Louisville), and goalie Chloe Provenzano (Harvard). Other top players for both teams included, for Lake Highland: Olivia Adamson (Syracuse), Sarah Pokorny (Denver), Riley Alexander (Ohio State), Mary Sosebee (High Point), Marissa Faris (Rollins), Kate Hanlon (Ohio State), and Isabella Elzarki (Hartford). For Delray: Anna and Sara Palmisano (both Denver), Nicole Scroggie (Boston U), Megan Mangines (Vanderbilt), Kylie Hazen (Georgetown), Ainsley Huizenga (William & Mary), and Casey Roberts (Ohio State). Due to their injuries, Liz Harrison (Florida) was unable to play for Delray and Casey Richbourg (Furman) was unable to play for LHP. These teams met in the 2018 state championship final, with American Heritage winning 10-7. In 2019, legendary coach Chris Robinson, the National High School Coach of the Decade, was in his first year leading the Lake Highland program, so the Highlanders came into the game expecting a different outcome. John McClain is the American Heritage coach. The winner of this game would be the prohibitive favorite to win the 2019 Florida state championship (only one division in Florida at the time) -- which is what occurred. Since neither team was able to compete in the 2020 rubber match, let’s remember how well they both played in this exciting game.
