A short history: Spacesynth or space disco is a highly instrumental and melodic offshoot of Italo-Disco that originated in the mid 1980s, pioneered by artists like Cyber People, Koto, Hipnosis and later cemented as its own subgenre by the likes of Proxyon and Laserdance. During the 90’s spacesynth all but disappeared due to the popularity of other EDM genres, however in the 2000’s spacesynth saw a revival with new artists entering the scene like Vanello, Electron, Protonic Storm and many more as well as new projects by the old masters, namely Michiel Van Der Kuy’s vast and continued contributions to the genre. Spacesynth thrived on online bulletin boards, forums and the early days of YouTube, but the advent of social media fragmented the communities. That 2000’s revival of spacesynth can be seen as one of the precursors to the synthwave music we enjoy today so it only made sense to collaborate with Mark Vera, admin of the well loved forum, to create this radio station.
