The UNESCO ancient Imperial Roman city of Sagalassos, perched majestically on a mountaintop in the Burdur Province of Turkey, is the most beautiful ancient Roman city I’ve ever seen in Turkey. During the Roman imperial time, Sagalassos was a wealthy and important metropolis in ancient Pisidia and favored by the imperial Roman Emperors, especially Emperor Hadrian, who called it “The Imperial City of the Cult.“ Sagalassos was renowned for producing high-quality pottery and agricultural products in its heyday. A large temple was built and dedicated to the Roman Emperors, Hadrian, and Antoninus Pius amid the ancient ruins. Emperor Hadrian built Sagalassos’ amphitheater during his reign.
