She debuted as a photo model for Ford Models in New York. In 1978 she got a record deal with producer Jean-Claude Friederich and released the debut single Rough diamond, which became a world hit. In 1980, Cherchez pas became number 18 on the Swedish top list. In 1981 she collaborated with Giorgio Moroder, resulting in hits such as You can and Playing for time. She had five singles on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. Her 1994 compilation album, 12 Inches and More, was a huge hit in the US. Madleen has released a biography of her life.
