British Pancakes | Pancake Day | Shrove Tuesday

The tradition in Britain is to eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. This is the day before Ash Wednesday which signifies the beginning of Lent. So the idea of pancakes is to use up various items that are not supposed to be eaten in the run-up to Easter. British pancakes are very similar to French crepes - they are quite thin, unlike their North American cousins. Pancakes can be topped with almost anything you can think of, sweet or savoury, but simple lemon juice and sugar is the basic topping.
