LIVE: Kenyans Rally in Protest as Lawmakers Meet To Vote on 2024 Finance Bill | Kenya Protest | CNBC TV18 NAIROBI - Young Kenyans hit the streets to protest as Kenyan lawmakers are expected to meet and vote on proposed changes to the proposed 2024 finance law. The draft law has met public outcry. The law proposes a removal of some taxes on food items like bread and cooking oil and cancels an new planned motor vehicle tax and proposes for an increase in a tax on fuel. Protesters plan to hit Kenya’s streets on Tuesday after calling for a nationwide strike as they seek to pressure the government over controversial tax reforms that are before the parliament. The government has warned protesters against engaging in violence, and has insisted that they must wind up their agitation by 6:30pm local time (15:00 GMT) or sunset, whichever is earlier.
