Brady Africk shows the front line (2) as seen from space through abandoned fields that have not been irrigated for several years. According to preliminary estimates by NASA Harvest, 5.2 to 6.9 million acres (2.1 to 2.8 million hectares) of farmland have been abandoned as a result of the war since it began. These abandoned fields make up 6.5 to 8.5% of the total acreage of Ukraine and, not surprisingly, are located along the front line of the war. In addition, this year alone, Ukraine suffered about $2 billion in economic losses due to crop losses in what are now fallow fields, and these lost crops could have fed more than 25 million people for an entire year.
