Iraq Demands Apology From Turkey Over Sulaimaniyah Airport Attack | Will US Act Against Ankara?

Turkey allegedly struck the Sulaymaniyah airport in Iraq’s northern Kurdish region on April 7, triggering an angry response from Iraq. The alleged drone strike led to a fire that was put out by civil defence and caused no casualties, according to airport officials. A US official confirmed there had been an attack on a convoy with US military personnel in the area. Iraq said Ankara had no legal justification to continue “intimidating civilians under the pretext that forces hostile to it are present on Iraqi soil”. Before the alleged attack on April 7, Turkey had closed its airspace to flights to and from Sulaymaniyah on April 5. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by the US, said its leader, Mazloum Abdi, was at the airport during the attack.
