“Bewitched,“ the television comedy starring Dick York and Elizabeth Montgomery as Darrin and Samantha Stevens, man and witch - er, wife, premiered in 1964.
The theme song was written by Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller. Greenfield had written a number of successful songs with Neil Sedaka. Keller later recalled, “The pilot had used Frank Sinatra’s ’Witchcraft,’ but they didn’t want to pay for ’Witchcraft,’ so they asked us to write something. We only had a week to write the song, do the demo, and get it out to California, and they accepted it and they put it on.“ But when the show aired the following season, an instrumental version of the song was used with music provided by Warren Baker who composed music for the series.
