QMU Live: Fós - Travelin’ Soldier

In collaboration with Creative Scotland, we present a Stay at Home St Paddy’s Day with music recorded live by Fós! Full set here: Fós are a quartet from Glasgow and Armagh, Ireland. Siblings Conor & Sarah Markey hail from Whifflet on the outskirts of Glasgow and have been playing Irish Traditional Music from a young age - learning first from weekly classes with the St Patrick’s branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and then going on to play and teach professionally across the world. Fiddle player Hannah Beth McNeill from Whiteinch came up through CCE’s Glasgow branch of St Roch’s Irish Minstrels, studied music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and again would go on to tour all over the world - most recently with a tenure at Raglan Road, Walt Disney World Florida since 2016. Emma Robinson on Flute and Whistles comes from Lurgan, Armagh and again came up through her local branch of Comhaltas - Clanbrassil. Emma has toured extensively across the globe and again most recently in North America - whilst continuing to teach online. Throughout their years of performing the four have played together at Fleadhanna and festivals the world over - making tonight a very special unison of shared tradition and memories. They are delighted to get the opportunity to play together and will cherish the memories of this first gig after a year of adverse conditions like many have experienced. Emma, Conor and Sarah are currently teaching online and Hannah is back in hospitality. We hope you enjoy the gig as much as we did! We are all missing gigs dearly and the QMU is delighted to once again use resources from the Creative Scotland Performing Arts Venue Relief Fund to provide invaluable work for members of our city’s vibrant music scene. This has been an extremely difficult year for all. Usually we would fundraise for Mental Health Live at our gigs so we would like to invite you to donate to the Mental Health Foundation whilst enjoying our gig - Thanks to Creative Scotland. #WeMakeEvents #QMU #QMUlive #QMUvenue #livemusic #creativescotland #glasgow #glasgowuniversity #2021
