Pumpkin Spice Doesn’t Contain Pumpkin?!

Pumpkin “Pie” Spice is a combination of warming spices (like cinnamon, allspice, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg) that traditionally flavor pumpkin pie. These spices, not pumpkin, are what our brains associate with fall and all those pumpkin spice treats. This pre-packaged product was introduced by McCormick in 1934. Its commercial name is Pumpkin Pie Spice, but is often referred to as just Pumpkin Spice due to its association with Starbucks
