ISIS-K: Brutal IS branch Behind Moscow Attack | At Least 133 Killed, Over 100 Wounded | Top News
Top News | Social media users are wondering why the Islamic State chose to target Russia after Moscow suffered one of its bloodiest terror assaults in decades, in which gunmen opened fire at a music venue, killing over 110 people. The incident was carried out by the Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), a branch of the Islamic State in Afghanistan, and was carried out a few days after Russian President Vladimir Putin was elected to a fifth term in office. The strike takes place in the midst of a protracted battle between Russia and the Islamic State that began in 2015 when President Putin intervened in the Syrian Civil War. In his fight against the Islamic State, President Bashar al-Assad got Putin’s support.
