LiveConnections Presents: VOCES8 (FULL CONCERT)

British ensemble VOCES8 takes a cappella chamber singing to a new level. Called “impeccable” (Gramophone) and “slickest of the lot” (BBC Radio 3), the 8-voice ensemble performs everything from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary commissions and popular arrangements. The program featured works by Bach, Byrd, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Simon and Garfunkel, Ben Folds, Jonathan Dove, Kate Rusby and more. In addition, VOCES8 employed their unique “VOCES8 Method” of music education, which uses rhythm and sound to enhance the development of numeracy, literacy and linguistics. They worked with LiveConnections’ school and community partners in a series of workshops, and were joined at the concert by special guest choirs from C.W. Henry School, a Philadelphia public school; Our Lady of Confidence Day School, which serves teens with intellectual disabilities; and Germantown Recovery Community, which serves adults receiving mental health, therapeutic and recovery services. It’s part of LiveConnections’ “A Song Everyone Can Sing“ initiative, focused on accessibility and inclusion through singing. The concert is presented by LiveConnections, a nonprofit in residence at World Cafe Live. “These aren’t your typical collaborations. LiveConnections creates synergy between unlikely bedfellows“ (Philly Magazine). Our critically acclaimed LiveConnections Presents concert series features collaborative concerts that cross musical boundaries, with adventurous artist pairings, brand new commissions and unique community participation.
