Aikido technique IKKYO in TANTO DORI, against different knife attacks, by Stefan Stenudd in 2003

The basic aikido technique ikkyo done on tanto dori (also called tanken dori), knife attacks, by aikido instructor Stefan Stenudd. Uke was Tomas Ohlsson, 3 dan. For safety reasons, what is used in tantodori training is a wooden knife. It should be understood that actual self-defense against knife attacks is extremely difficult, whatever martial art or technique is used. Furthermore, ikkyo might not be the most effective aikido technique against knife attacks, but it is part of the tantodori curriculum. This is a new edit of a 2003 video posted in 2007: The quality is vastly improved in the edit, but still far below the level of contemporary videos. I did what I could. I’ve written extensively about the ikkyo technique in tantodori here: Also, I present many other aikido tantodori techniques here: My aikido dojo is Enighet in Malmö, Sweden: For more about aikido, visit my website: My aikido books:
