Mortem Animalium (France) — S/T — 2021 full length

The debut of this French act. This record is quite original. At first glance it is a black metal act driven by guitar with some peculiar vocals that while not being high in the mix still do not go unnoticed. However, below that, as the music starts to flow you start to notice there is something different going on. The slower pieces of melody are a sort of black metal deconstruction, some sort of avant-garde force striding in the opposite direction. Maybe even the faster ones have some of that force as well. As for the instruments they are immaculately played, and it is quite pleasurable to listen to such an amazing piece of music, where all the dots come together in near perfection.
