With a short development time and an impossible set of requirements, the Luftwaffe indeed ended up with a “Paratrooper’s Rifle“ that was shorter and lighter than a Kar98k, capable of firing open bolt full auto and closed bolt semi auto... but was it truly that easy of a development? Developing and designing new firearms is a DIFFICULT process. Most people forget. Earlier we worked with Smith Machine Group who loaned us their prototype FG42 Type 1 to get our hands on some familiarization for the system. We must emphasize that this is the prototype S/N 0001, and not the production models that actually work very well.
