南木曽町の古い文献によると、南木曽ろくろ細工の始まりは、18世紀前半となっています。 盆、椀等の木地荷物を名古屋・大阪方面に出していたことが記されています。江戸時代中期には、白木の挽物（ひきもの）がこの地方で生産されていたことがうかがわれます。 According to an old document found in Nagiso, turnery began in the area sometime during the first half of the 18th century, when unfinished trays and bowls were being sent to Nagoya and Osaka.
