No titles. Second annual stair-race at GPO Tower. London. L/S at night of GPO Tower (now BT Tower). Various shots of university students in a race to climb the tower. We see several students starting off at the base of the tower, running up the narrow staircase and reaching the top, where a man sits with a counting machine and several stopwatches. Competitors watch the progress on closed circuit television (CCTV). On the top floor a competitor has his brow wiped by an ambulance man. Winner John Pearson of Manchester University is presented with a silver trophy and poses for the camera. Comic shot of a student in a sunhat and long socks tearing up the stairs, then staggering up the next flight and collapsing before getting up the next flight (he’s trying not to giggle).
