Vladimir Odoevsky | Sentimental Waltz

Vladimir Fedorovich ODOEVSKY (1804-1869) - famous music critic, writer and public figure. The founder of Russian scientific musicology. He was close to Glinka, Pushkin, Gogol, Belinsky and others. The role of Odoevsky is especially great as a convinced champion of folk realistic art, a national trend in Russian music. His articles about Glinka and folk songs were of great importance. His views on musical creativity were reflected in some literary works (“Beethoven’s Last Quartet” - 1831, “Sebastian Bach” - 1835, etc.). He took an active part in the activities of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Society, the Russian Musical Society, and the St. Petersburg and Moscow Conservatories. Odoevsky wrote many different musical works, but not all of them were published by the composer (he was apparently too strict a critic in his work). The Sentimental Waltz, which has survived to this day and has not lost its artistic value, is very noble in its images, distinguished by its delicate taste and harmonic sophistication. It is characterized by melodization of accompanying voices.
