A Winter Journey with Caroline. The Enchanting 1861 Steam Locomotive Touring in 2024!

The Norwegian Railway Museum boasts one of the world’s oldest, most intact, and operational vintage trains. The journey of restoration began in 1988 when the Friends of the Railway Museum conceived the idea to revive a historic carriage train. After six years of meticulous restoration work, the locomotive “Caroline“ roared back to life in the spring of 1996, just in time for the museum’s centenary celebration. Since its revival, the train has been a focal point of the museum’s activities, embarking on two to four annual excursions to Elverum, with occasional side trips to Eidsvoll/Lillestrøm in 2004, Kongsvinger in 2004, Flisa in 2010 and 2015, and the Lillestrøm-Kongsvinger route in 2012. It even ventured beyond Norwegian borders for a guest appearance at the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle in 2006.
