If every empire had its barbarians, the Gutians were the ones who afflicted Mesopotamia. From the founding of Akkad over four thousand years ago these mysterious nomads came rampaging out of the Zagros Mountains to lay waste to the Euphrates valley for millennia. Responsible for the fall of Akkad, Ur III, and even Babylon, they left no records of their own and are only known to history through the accounts of their enemies. Thanks to the esteemed Joshua J.
