tani avartanam

The tani avartanam is a rhythmic improvisational structure that is created by South Indian percussion instruments performing together. It has an interesting play of rhythm and explores the various rhythm cycles that exist in Carnatic music. This tani avartanam has been adapted to Bharatanatyam and choreographed retaining the call and response that exists in a live performance. A lyrical line describes Lord Ardhanareeswara, an embodiment of Shiva that has the masculine and feminine in one physical form.
