Kara Silvestri - In The Stars

When I was first concepting this video, I realized I wanted to tell a story centered around having faith in the face of defeat from being bullied as a young child— as well as what that evolution might look like. To feel the sadness, anger, peace, joy, and love. The quiet moments AND the loud moments. As a shy little girl/only child, making friends and avoiding getting picked on was the hardest thing for me to overcome in grade school. It wasn’t until I got older that I was able to understand that its okay to fully be myself no matter who sticks around. This story is told from the perspective of my younger self — dreaming about her future self in full humility with no remorse and actually alchemizing her present trauma in the process. It’s about transforming trauma into empowerment through self awareness and reflection. It’s about giving love to all the parts of you that you’ve shadowed. It’s about being connected to everything that makes up who you are and who you decide to become. It’s a message to anyone who has ever been bullied that there are guiding lights everywhere inspiring us to continue showing up and authentically being ourselves.
