SAN GIMIGNANO and VOLTERRA | The Ancient Tuscany, ITALY |

San Gimignano and Volterra are 2 medieval cities as small as they are splendid, they are found in Tuscany and both have centuries of history to tell closed up in their walls. San Gimignano is famous for the medieval architecture of the historic center and for its towers, the rich families of the time built 72 of them as a symbol of their power, but today only 14 remain, but this has not prevented the city from entering to be part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990. Volterra on the other hand, famous throughout the world for the extraction and processing of alabaster, was one of the main city-states of ancient Tuscany and still today preserves its historic center of Etruscan origin, protected by a wall built at the end of the IV BC which can still be visited to a large extent today.
