THREE DODECAPHONIC PIECES (for solo guitar) - Mikołaj Kościelak

Dodecaphony is a technique of musical composition devised by Arnold Schoenberg. The main assumptions of this method concern the idea that all twelve notes of a chromatic scale are given more or less equal importance. The composer’s task is to arrange a sequence of them in any order and without repetition. This technique is obviously very mathematical and sometimes ridiculous, however, in my humble opinion it’s possible to use it in a very interesting as well as attractive way. While composing ’Three Dodecaphonic Pieces’ I set myself a goal to create something melodic and simultaneously maintained in the dodecaphonic languauge. My approach was completely different than old masters’ one – I didn’t want to write random series of notes – every choice was considered, with no coincidence.
