I first saw Buddy Rich in around 1968 playing a kit just like this one! I was a teenage rocker and seeing Buddy and his American big band for the first time just blew me away! From that moment on I decided to switch from matched to traditional grip!
I’ve wanted a kit like his ever since that moment and I still havent got ! Luckily Tim has and what a pleasure it was to play it. His kit, just like Buddy’s has a 24 inch bass drum, (a perfect diameter to my mind) a 13“ tom tom and two 16“ floor toms. Tim has got all the correct Slingerland period hardware and cymbals to go with it and all of the drums are beautifully tuned.
It was great fun playing this solo inspired by Buddy but hey, there was only one Buddy Rich and no-one could ever play like him, least of all me.
I hope that you enjoy Tims video of me being ’let loose’ on his kit and don’t forget to hit like and subscribe. Thank you for watching! See you next time, for mor
