1961 HITS ARCHIVE: Quarter To Three - U.S. Bonds (a #1 record)

Quarter To Three (Barge-Guida-Anderson-Royster) by U.S. Bonds This then-unique sounding party classic spent multiple weeks atop all three of the national music trade charts. Beginning with his next release--the also-posted “School Is Out”--singer Gary Anderson changed his professional billing to Gary (U.S.) Bonds. Note: the repeated lyrical mentions of “Night With Daddy G” and “Church Street Five” refer to the early 1961 instrumental recording “A Night With Daddy G (Part 2)” by the Church Street Five upon which the melody of “Quarter To Three” was based. That group was led by Gene “Daddy G” Barge, the bandleader and saxophonist heard on the Bonds recordings. Barge has also appeared in minor acting roles in several Andrew Davis-directed motion pictures (“The Fugitive” “Under Siege” “Above The Law” etc.). THE 1961 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1961 (some were recorded in 1960).
