Stalingrad. Operation Uranus

Operation “Uranus“ (19-23 nov. 1942) was the big TURNINGPOINT of the worldwar II!! The russian forces was over 1 million men in this operation and they encircle 290 000 germans and romanians, including the strong sixth army. Finally the russian revenge had come! The battle of Stalingrad was the beginning of the end for the Third Reich! An relief expedition was set up by the germans with several strong and fresh tank-divisions, they attacked in the midle of december but couldn´t come through to Stalingrad. Some units come as close as 40 km. from the sixth army, but the russian defence was too strong. The codename for this operation was: “Winterstorm“ (Wintergewitter) and the commander was the talented general: Erich von Manstein. Germany Pics on: Erich von Manstein, Field Marshal.
