The Sirex Woodwasps And Their Insect Enemies Reel 2 (1930-1939)

Reel 2. Two insect parasites attack the woodwasp. The first, Ibalia leucospoides lays her eggs inside the bodies of the woodwasp larvae. We see the insect laying finding a woodwasp hole and injecting her eggs. X-ray shot of woodwasp with a parasite egg inside it. C/U of the parasite’s head. The parasite pupa is shown. Dried up remains of the host larvae lies in the tunnel behind the parasite. We see the parasite emerging from the wood. Second parasite is Rhyssa persuasoria. She lays her eggs on the outside of the woodwasp’s body. We see female Rhyssa looking for woodwasps. She inserts her egg laying drill through the solid wood to lay her eggs.
