Scotland first minister warns Trump: Coming to play golf isn’t “essential“ travel

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Tuesday warned U.S. President Donald Trump against travelling to Scotland, amid reports he might travel to his golf course in the country to skip the inauguration of Joe Biden as president, saying that he will not get special treatment under the country’s coronavirus rules. “We are not allowing people to come into Scotland without an essential purpose ... and coming to play golf is not what I would consider to be an essential purpose,“ she said during a COVID-19 briefing. Sturgeon also spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic in Scotland, saying an analysis of tests showed the new variant that was first identified in the U.K. accounted for about 50 per cent of new cases in the country.
