Harry Hemsley (1933)

Full title reads: “Now to introduce another Variety & Radio Star, Harry Hemsley - the famous Child Impersonator.“ C/U of Harry who wants us to imagine that there is a little girl of 3 and a half years of age sitting in a chair beside him. He explains that what we are about to see is not ventriloquism but just an attempt to reproduce the voice of a 3 and a half year old. He pretends to speak to the little girl. Whenever he does her voice he puts a book in front of his face so we can’t see his lips moving. It is pretty good but a little bit creepy! He finishes his act with a strange story about a young girl who is ill in bed and has a visit from the doctor. The doctor taps the girl’s spinal column to find the source of the trouble. The child turns round and looks up at the doctor remarking that “if you are looking for my tummy it is on the other side“ - weird! FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
