Atlantean Sword & Ysbrydnos - Fathoms of Celestial Sorrow (full split, 2024)

Welcome to a new edition of Dungeon Synth Sunday – for the uninitiated, this is my weekly occasion to feature the ambient worlds adjacent to black metal, from its constant companion of dungeon synth, to dark ambient, esoteric drone, noise, ethereal folk forms and sounds from even further afield in time, place and resonance. The first of this Sunday’s four album features is a split from the chthonic depths of the British isles, between Ysbrydnos, from the lush mystic Welsh mountains, and Atlantean Sword from the druidic vale of Englande. Together they have created a complementary album of ancient medieval folk drones, dark dungeon narratives, woven together with collaged found sounds to create an expansive journey of epic, atmospheric fantasy dungeon synth. Released in limited editions of hand-made cassette and CD by Nocturnal Curse Records. Digital copies and CDs available from both Ysbrydnos and Atlantean Sword bandcamp pages. Look out for a second tape release through Weregnome (US) and Dale of Shadows (EU) soon.
