Tbilisi Walks: Rike Park

Take a stroll through #RikePark, a modern park in #Tbilisi established in 2010 on the left bank of the Kura River. We’ll enter the park from the side of the pedestrian Bridge of Peace, designed by Italian architect Michele de Lucchi and also opened in 2010. The Bridge of Peace connects Rike Park to the old town, and via the cable car, opened in 2012, you can ascend directly from the park to the Narikala Fortress. Within Rike Park, you’ll find perhaps the city’s most extravagant structure – the music theater building with an exhibition hall, designed by Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas. Despite its striking glass and concrete construction adorned with stainless steel, this building, referred to by locals as the ’pipes,’ has never been used for its intended purpose. Unfortunately, these ’pipes’ remain unused and stand idle in the park, yet continue to captivate and amaze numerous tourists with their unconventional design. At the end of the walk, you’ll also encounter the monument dedicated to the 40th President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, installed in the park.
