AAC MODELING during Story Time - Speech therapy strategies with an iPad and communication app

This video demonstrates how a conversation partner (parent, teacher or therapist) can use AAC MODELING to help communicators learn how to navigate their AAC system, and what they can say in daily activities. Typically developing children learn how to speak by hearing people talk all day; AAC users need to see and hear people communicate with their modality throughout the day too! TIPS: 1. Have the device (or other form of AAC) out. 2. Start with 1 - 2 words to say about the activity. It’s better to start small than to do nothing at all! 3. Take your time looking for words, it’s OK if you don’t know where words are (it teaches your learner how to look for words)! 4. Have fun! AAC = augmentative and alternative communication
