This video covers pretty much all of my thoughts on what autistic representation should look like and how characters with Autism Spectrum Disorder should be portrayed. Including side rants about ableism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and my celebrity crushes. When representing autistic people, we have to remember that autism is a spectrum and that different people have different experiences. Autistic women and AFAB people, high masking individuals and people with less obvious traits or complicating comorbidities are in need of representation. But high support needs and non-speaking autistics deserve to be represented in tv and movies as well. All types of autistics are important to this community and everyone deserves representation, but that makes representing autism with a single character extremely difficult. So let’s talk about how I think these shows and movies did the job. ___________________________________________________________________________ Characters: Sheldon Cooper - Big Bang Theory & Young Sheldon Renee - Disney’s Loop Norma Khan - Dead End Paranormal Park Matilda Moss - Everything’s Gonna Be Okay Nicholas Moss - Everything’s Gonna Be Okay Sam Gardner - Atypical Abed Nadir - Community Music - Sia’s Music Isadora Smackle (& Farkle Mincus) - Girl Meets World Shaun Murphy - The Good Doctor Quinni Gallagher - Heartbreak High (Chloe Hayden’s character)
