Anti-suffocation pillows saving lives at home

Today is national epilepsy day, so we want to highlight the life-saving equipment that Southampton Hospitals Charity has provided for patients with epilepsy within Southampton Children’s Hospital. Through Charity funding, we’ve bought some anti-suffocation pillows for the children to use at home. They have more of a mesh design compared to the standard pillow which means that the structure has more holes in it. This allows our patients to breathe, even when having convulsive seizures. It is such a simple concept, but it is truly life-saving. Epilepsy is a common condition that affects the brain and causes frequent seizures. These are bursts of electrical activity in the brain that temporarily affect how it works. The condition affects people in different ways, depending on which part of the brain is involved. Read more:
