Before leaving for Washington as Head of the British Admiralty delegation, Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham sits at a desk and makes a speech, paying tribute to “our men who fight at sea“. He talks of the spirit of the men who are fighting the war at sea in the Mediterranean and mentions Matapan, Taranto, Greece and Crete, Tobruk and Malta. He ends by saying how proud he is to have had such men under his command and with what deep regret he leaves them.
