Historically, tassu was used to air political discontent of all sorts, from social life to marriage to the environment. This political content continues today, but tassu also performs roles as general entertainment and as ritual function in ceremonies such as marriage – one of the tassoukat (performers) best known for the latter being Aby Ngana Diop.
