Dr. Brady Cox demos a Large-Scale Mobile Shaker used for Earthquake Simulation
The University of Texas Cockrell School of Engineering has three large-scale mobile shakers, affectionately known as “T-Rex“, “Thumper“, and “Liquidator“. These were funded by the NSF Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES).
These shakers are used to simulate earthquakes from low-levels of shaking to high-levels of shaking. The large baseplate in the center of the truck rests on the ground and applies tens of thousands of pounds of force. The baseplate then vibrates vertically or horizontal
